Ensuring an effective and modern supervision, strengthening investor protection and promoting transparency, innovation and sustainable development in the capital market will be among our priorities, the new Chairman of the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC), George Karatzias, has said, according to a press release issued by the Commission.
As it is noted, Karatzias said CySEC’s role was becoming increasingly important in maintaining investor confidence and enhancing Cyprus’ international credibility.
“CySEC stands at the forefront of safeguarding market transparency, integrity, and the orderly functioning of the financial markets,” he said, adding that the Commission’s role was becoming increasingly pivotal in a constantly evolving environment presenting new challenges and opportunities.
Karatzias said he was assuming the presidency with full awareness of the responsibility involved and expressed his sincere appreciation to the President of the Republic, the Minister of Finance and the Council of Ministers for the confidence placed in him.
He said he would work closely with the Vice Chairman, the members of the Board and CySEC staff to further strengthen the institution and safeguard the credibility of the Cypriot capital market.
Karatzias was appointed Chairman of CySEC by the Council of Ministers, while Loukas Lagoudis was appointed Vice Chairman, and Andrea Moundi Savvides was appointed a member of the Commission’s Board.
The new Chair previously served as Vice Chairman of CySEC from September 2021 to April 2024. From May 2024 until his appointment, he was an Executive Member of the Board of Directors of the Central Bank of Cyprus.
Loukas Lagoudis served as a non-executive member of the CySEC Board from October 2024 until his appointment as Vice Chairman on 15 September, 2026.
