The Deputy Ministry of Migration and International Protection and the ERATOSTHENES Center of Excellence have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation.

According to a press release issued by the Deputy Ministry, the Memorandum was signed on behalf of the Deputy Ministry of Migration and International Protection by Deputy Minister Nicholas Ioannides and, on behalf of the ERATOSTHENIS Center of Excellence, by Professor Diofantos Hadjimitsis.

As noted, the collaboration aims to leverage scientific knowledge, technological expertise, and modern geospatial tools to support the work of the Deputy Ministry in areas related to migration, international protection, data management, operational readiness, and the formulation of evidence-based public policies.

It is noted that the Memorandum provides, among other things, for the exchange of information and expertise on issues such as the mapping of migration routes and points of entry, the spatial mapping of reception facilities, as well as the assessment of capacity and infrastructure needs; at the same time, the cooperation includes support for data analysis using statistical and geographic tools, the use of geoinformation systems for crisis and emergency management purposes, as well as the development or upgrading of digital tools.

“The signing of the Memorandum is part of the Deputy Ministry’s strategy to strengthen evidence-based decision-making, operational effectiveness, and the use of innovation in managing migration and international protection issues. As a frontline Member State, the Republic of Cyprus is called upon to manage complex and dynamic challenges by utilizing modern tools for analysis, planning, and forecasting, which enhance the readiness, transparency, and effectiveness of public administration,” the press release noted.

“Through its collaboration with the ERATOSTHENES Center of Excellence, the Deputy Ministry is strengthening the link between public administration and the country’s research and technology community, with the aim of developing practical solutions that meet the contemporary needs of the Republic of Cyprus. This collaboration highlights the importance of scientific evidence and technological innovation as key tools for better data monitoring, more sound policy design, and more effective management of operational needs,” it concluded.
