Passenger car registrations (saloon type) remained at the same levels in January–July 2025 as the corresponding period last year, as the car market showed signs of stabilising.
Registrations of saloon cars increased by just 0.1%, reaching 24,158 compared to 24,126 in the first seven months of 2024.
It is noted that used cars continue to hold the lion’s share with 60%, compared to 40% accounted for by new car registrations.
Hybrid and electric vehicles remain on an upward trajectory, with their shares rising in the first seven months of 2025 to 43.3% (from 36.8% in the first seven months of 2024) and 4.8% (from 3.2%), respectively. In contrast, the share of petrol-powered saloon cars fell to 43.3% from 49.9% in the same period of 2024, while that of diesel-powered cars dropped to 8.5% from 9.9% in the same period last year.
Total passenger car market
Passenger car registrations (saloon type) reached 24,158 in the first seven months of 2025, of which 20,422 concerned private vehicles.
Toyota retains the top spot in the overall saloon passenger car market with 4,312 registrations, followed by Mazda with 2,585. Nissan recorded 1,785 registrations, BMW 1,378, while Kia completes the top five with 1,308.
Other brands on the list include Mercedes (1,263), Volkswagen (910), Hyundai (837), Honda (771), and Audi (539).
New passenger cars (saloon)
Out of the total saloon passenger cars registered between January and July 2025, 9,660 or 40% were new, of which 8,453 were private vehicles.
Kia holds the top position with 1,267 registrations, followed by Hyundai (769), Volkswagen (762), and Nissan (718), while Toyota rounds out the top five with 699.
The list of new saloon passenger car registrations also includes popular market brands such as BMW (507), Mercedes (442), Renault (391), Jeep (367), and Audi (331).
Used passenger cars (saloon)
Used cars accounted for 60% of the saloon passenger car market, with registrations reaching 14,498 in the first seven months of 2025, of which 11,969 concerned private vehicles.
Favourite makes
Toyota remains in first place with 3,613 registrations, followed by Mazda in second with 2,536. Nissan (1,067), BMW (871) and Mercedes (821) take the remaining spots in the top five.
Other brands on the list of used saloon car registrations include Honda (696), Land Rover (321), Suzuki (234), Audi (208) and Volvo (174).
